The unprecedented spread of COVID-19 has led to Kentucky State Parks making some difficult operational changes. While spending a day outside enjoying nature isn’t a bad idea during this time, here’s what you need to know if you plan to head out to a State Park in Kentucky. This article was updated on April 3rd, 2020. Follow Kentucky State Parks on Facebook for the most up-to-date information.
For now, all state park lodges, cottages, restaurants and campgrounds are closed until further notice.
The majority of state parks will be open from 7am to 7pm. This will include hiking trails and picnic areas. Golf courses are open, however, golf courses have taken various precautions such as closing pro shops to drive through only service, halting the use of carts except for ADA guests and spacing tee times 20 minutes apart. The golf courses have removed bunker rakes and made modifications to the flagsticks as well to help eliminate the spread of the virus. Check with specific parks for course hours.
Group and park events are all cancelled through at least April 30. Patrons should check with individual parks before heading out about any park services they plan to use.
Historic homes, museums and gift shops are closed for the time being. Park grounds are simply open for hiking, picnicking and exploring. Tours of homes are also suspended at this time as well as tours of the two pioneer forts at Fort Boonesborough and Old Fort Harrod State Parks.
All state park playgrounds are closed.
If you are camping with a reservation between now and April 30, you are entitled to a full refund. If you have a reservation between April 30 and May 15, and you’d like to cancel, contact Reserve America at 888-459-7275.
Boat ramps at some state parks may be closed.
