The Best Campgrounds at Lake Cumberland

Lake Cumberland is the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi, occupying more than 52,000 acres and has more than 1,200 miles of shoreline. A number of communities and different counties occupy the area surrounding Lake Cumberland including Somerset, Jamestown, Russell Springs, Monticello and Burnside among others. The lake is known as a destination for fishing and boating and the shores offer plenty of things to do including hiking trails, golf, disc golf, boat rentals and much more.

We’ve rounded up the best campgrounds on Lake Cumberland to help you plan your next Lake Cumberland camping trip!

Lake Cumberland State Park Campground

State park campgrounds are some of our favorites to stay at when we camp as a family. They offer consistently good amenities and a reliable experience. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park sits on the northwestern edge of the lake in Russell County and offers guest 129 different campsites. The state park campground offers standard electric, full hookup and ADA accessible sites. The campground offers a bathhouse, laundry, a playground, restrooms, fire rings, grills and a retail shop where you can pickup ice and a firewood. You’ll be within easy reach of several waterfront restaurants and the largest marina in the Jamestown area which offers boat rentals, paddle boards, jet skis and much more, from right inside the state park grounds. The state park offers numerous activities for families and guests of all ages including mini golf, horseback riding, disc golf, hiking and swimming. *This campground is located in Central Time zone.

Cumberland Point Campground and RV Resort

Cumberland Point Campground is located along the shores of Lake Cumberland near Nancy. The small campground occupies about 30 acres and offers guests 30 shaded campsites. Fourteen of the campsites are right on the waterfront. There’s also a day-use area, public parking and a picnic shelter. Campground amenities include a playground, boat ramp, flush toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. The road to access Cumberland Point Campground has a very steep grade, so keep this in mind when choosing this campground. Campsites include standard electric and tent-only electric sites. Kendall Recreation Area Campground

This campground is located on the banks of the Cumberland River, just below Wolf Creek Dam, about 10 miles west of Jamestown, KY. It’s managed by the Army Corps of Engineers and is quite popular. This Lake Cumberland-area campground offers more than 115 campsites, all of which have water, electric, picnic tables and fire rings. Park amenities include a boat ramp, fish cleaning area, basketball, a small store, a playground, horseshoes and hiking and mountain biking trails. From the campground you can enjoy beautiful scenic views of the river and surrounding scenery. The creek is a popular fishing spot and is well-stocked with a variety of fish.

Fall Creek Campground

The small, but nicely situated Fall Creek Campground offers 10 shaded campsites on 10 acres along the waterfront near Monticello. The park has a day use area, picnic shelter and public parking. Campground amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. The park has a boat ramp and a playground. All campsites are standard electric sites. Fishing Creek Campground

Fishing Creek Campground sits just west of Somerset which means it offers convenient access to town when you stay at one of its 26 RV sites or 20 tent-only sites. All campsites have water and electric hookups, picnic tables and fire pits. Campground amenities include a playground, a day-use area, showers, toilets, a boat ramp, washer/dryer and a dump station. The campground is only about 10 minutes away from Lee’s Ford Resort Marina where you can rent boats, purchase necessities or enjoy a nice meal. Pulaski County Park Campground and Boat Ramp

Pulaski County Park is one of our favorite campgrounds at Lake Cumberland, and a really nice place to go spend the day. The park is located in western Pulaski County and offers primitive and RV campsites right near the lake with a bathhouse, trails, and a boat ramp. They also have cabins available for rent in case you aren’t up for roughin’ it. There is a nice beach area and playground as well. The park has a free day use area that makes it a wonderful place to just go and spend the day by the lake or enjoy the hiking and mountain biking trails.

Russell Springs KOA Journey

The Russell Springs KOA Journey campground is about 1 mile away from the lakeshore and boat ramp but offers beautiful views of the lake. They offer RV sites, tent sites and cabin rentals. The campground has a tennis court, miniature golf, a swimming pool, recreation room, playground, volleyball and basketball and plenty of special events and activities on holiday weekends and other special occasions. The recreation hall has cable TV and plenty of video games in case of rainy weather. Boat rentals and a restaurant are available a short drive away. Pine Crest RV Park & Resort

Pine Crest RV Park & Resort offers year-round camping at a family owned and operated campground near Russell Springs. The campground sits on a peninsula up above Lake Cumberland, a short (approx. 1 mile) drive between the two Alligator Boat Launches. They are open year round for overnight RV stays and offer cabin rentals seasonally. Pine Crest is about 15 miles away from Russell Springs offering enough things to do if you need to do some last minute shopping or want to grab a meal at a restaurant. Happy Camper RV Park

Happy Camper RV camp is one of the newer places to stay on Lake Cumberland. The campground is about 2 miles from Lake Cumberland and close to the city off Somerset. They offer 21 pull-through RV sites that can accommodate up to 40 ft RVs. Amenities include high speed Wifi, a kids play area, dog park, water, electric septic and trash. If you don’t have your own RV, no problem, you can rent one of two Camper Rentals designed to fit large families who want to vacation together! Conley Bottom Resort

Conley Bottom near Monticello offers 150 campsites on Lake Cumberland on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a central bathhouse with washer and dryer, and overnight boat tie up provided with camping fee. They do not allow golf carts, ATVs, Motorcycles or Scooters. There is a playground and swimming permitted on the lakeshore as well as fishing on the fisherman’s wharf. Hidden Ridge Camping

Located near Conley Bottom Resort, Hidden Ridge Camping offers an escape into nature. It sits on 53 acres of wooded lands and offers tent camping, glamping sites, RV sites and lodge rentals. Camp sites are dispersed throughout the property to offer you a true experience of relaxing and enjoying nature, not crowded on a campground next to lots of other people. There’s frequently live music performances and music campouts throughout the summer months. CJs Getaway Campground

CJs Campground near Lake Cumberland Kentucky

CJ’s Getaway is a tent-only campground near Jabez, KY in Russell County. It’s designed for those who enjoy the outdoors with some modern conveniences. Campsites at CJ’s are wooded and tucked away in the brush, so that you can have some privacy during your stay. For those who prefer to choose their own campsite out in the woods, you may do so, or you can simply choose one that is ready for you. If you don’t have camping gear, CJ’s offers a variety of tents, tarps, coolers, stash boxes and chairs for rent. They request that you reserve those items at least 3 days before your stay. The campground has a full modern bathhouse with sinks, toilets and showers. There’s also a charging station for electronics and a common area with grills, fire pits, picnic tables and cast iron pans for everyone’s use. Reservations are accepted but aren’t required. Foggy Bottom

Foggy Bottom Campground in Kentucky

Foggy Bottom Campground is a family-owned and operated campground about 1 mile below the Wolf Creek Dam in Jamestown. It’s about 1 mile away from the Cumberland River and Lake Cumberland. They offer campsites and RV hookups, cabin and bunckhouse rentals, and a store that includes a selection of bait and tackle. There are bathhouses and on-site laundry facilities. General Burnside Island State Park

General Burnside Island State Park is the only island state park in Kentucky. The park is on an island in the middle of the Cumberland River. It features one of the best public golf courses in Kentucky and has a sprawling 102-site campground. 94 of the sites have utility hookups. Waitsboro Campground

Waitsboro Campground offers 17 RV sites, all with electric and five tent-only sites with sweeping scenic views of Lake Cumberland. Eight of the sites have prime locations on the waterfront. The campground has flush toilets, showers, drinking water, laundry and a dump station. There’s also a day-use area with a picnic shelter and public parking. Lake Cumberland Camping

Lake Cumberland Camping in Monticello sits about 5 minutes away from the shores of Lake Cumberland. They only offer annual lease RV sites priced at $3200 a site, no weekly or nightly rates. This cost covers your water usage and pumping of holding tanks, but electric is billed annually to each site. The campground has access to the pavilion, swimming pool, playground, laundry room and dump station. There are a total of 40 camp sites. Additionally, there’s a cabin available for renting.
